Yesterday was my first day on the Lemonade Diet, aka The Master Cleanser. I prepared the night before by drinking an herbal laxative tea at bedtime. My allergies woke me up at 4:00 am (which is another reason I am doing this cleanse) and so there I lay, sneezing, blowing my nose, and not sleeping. At 5:00 am I went down to the kitchen to prepare my unionized sea salt water drink.
To make this drink you will need:
1 Quart room temperature water (4 cups) and 2 level teaspoons of sea salt (unionized)
I let the mixture really settle so that I couldn’t see any salt grains left in the bottom of the water before I drank it. I took my time drinking it so that I wouldn’t get sick. It helped to pretend it was a luke warm salty chicken broth. It took me around 20 minutes to drink the entire concoction.
About an hour later I began eliminating. Now this is the first time I have ever done anything like this so I didn’t know what to expect. It wasn’t as bad as a thought, although after the first few eliminations a lot of water comes out with little number two. It took me another hour to finally stop having to be near a toilet.
I went to church and did partake of the sacrament, choosing the smallest little nibble of bread on the tray. I will continue to take the sacrament each week, hoping this will not influence my cleanse in a bad way.
The hunger pains weren’t as bad as I thought they would be. Each time I got hungry I would make a fresh cup of lemon juice.
To do this I took:
2 Tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 Tablespoons of grade B organic maple syrup
1/10 teaspoon of organic cayenne pepper
8 ounces of water
I prefer to drink my lemonade as a warm tea (for now) because it is still a bit cold here in Washington. As the summer progresses I will most likely start making a cold version. During the day I drank each time I was hungry, a total of 7 to 8 lemonades and had another herbal tea at bedtime. I really enjoy the tea and today will go and by some herbal mint tea as it is permitted on the diet and will help freshen my breath : )!
I also took some pictures of myself. I had my daughter do some full body shots, face shots and I did a scale shot (Thanks Sabryna)! I will post these in intervals on my blog so you can see my progress. My short term goal is to make it through ten days on the cleanse. Depending on what my body is telling me I may go another ten days, then another, and another, until I can complete the 40 day cleanse. But for today I am hoping I can just finish the first ten days : )!
I downloaded to my I Pad a few books on the cleanse so I can receive continued motivation. I have been reading while I drink the lemonade or feel like I need a little perk. Near the end of the day (about 5:00 pm) I started having a small headache and I am sure this is just the start of detoxing. I went to bed with the head ache but woke without it. Emotionally I feel a fine, maybe a little on edge. I think it is because I am scared of being around food. My husband, Doug, (who is so supportive) has offered to cook dinners for the kids so I won’t have that temptation. So far, so good, I am excited to make it through ten days!
