My littlest still hasn’t grown into his waiste size…and I am constantly having to take up his pants. If you aren’t used to sewing you may think it is impossible to cut pants off and make your pants look good without paying a professional. Here is a trick that enables you to use the hem that already exists…and nobody knows the difference.
Simply fold the pants up to the desired length. As you can see here I am taking up a good two inches. Sew a straight seam just below the factory hem.
After you have completed sewing around the entire seam you can trim off the excess and serge around to prevent fraying. I left the extra fabric in-tact so that I could take down the hem when my son goes through another growth spurt.
And here is the finished product…the perfect length and best of all it looks professional.
