DIY Valentine’s Day Decor Vignette & Flat Lay

Valentine’s Day is over, but the fresh roses I was given are still opening up beautifully. Because of that, it may just be V Day over here until the roses wilt! Today it was absolutely necessary to decorate my shabby chic tray and make a sweet vignette. What started with something fun to do sure ended up brightening my day. Roses have a way of doing that.

To achieve this vignette I simply framed a “Happy Valentine’s Day” gift bag purchased for $1. What can’t be seen in the photo is that the lettering on the bag is raised and glittered. I love how there is a pink water-color effect in the background. I owned the frame, but it was an antique gold, so I painted it quickly with some white chalk paint. Voila…a DIY art project that makes this frugal decorator smile!

I was given a dozen pink and white roses and I cut them down to photograph the flat lay {photo shown below}. Afterwards I stuck them in a crystal bowl full of water. It is one of my favorite ways to display roses, having them bundled up tightly next to one another.

The rose-covered balls are made from styrofoam, crepe paper streamers and some hot glue. I’m not going to lie, it takes a long time to make each rose and cover the entire ball. This project is not for the faint of heart–and is also why I only made three of them. But wouldn’t it be cute to make a dozen or so and strand them across the mantel? Decor goals….maybe next year.

There is a wonderful tutorial on how to make these delicious rose-covered balls on The House of Smith’s which is found HERE. Mine are a much smaller version but made exactly the same way. A two-inch styrofoam ball is the perfect size because once the roses are glued on it makes the circumference double, or around 4-5 inches. {See recommended supplies below}. Also check out her adorable rose-covered wreath in the same post. I love Shelley’s style, thanks for sharing this tutorial with all of us!

Here are a few of my favorite Valentine decorations, set out in a flat lay. I love flat lay displays, they make me HAPPY and I love being happy!
