What It Feels Like To Be A Grandma

What it feels like to be a grandma

My third grandson, Adam Paul, who was born today.

I am often asked what it feels like to be a grandma.

My third grandson was born today and this is the best way I can describe it.

To love an unborn child with the ferociousness as if they were your own;
That is what it feels like to be a grandma.

To worry about the safety of this sweet unborn child each and every day;
That is what it feels like to be a grandma.

To be willing to move mountains and travel to the ends of the earth to attend their birth;
That is what it feels like to be a grandma.

To hold this sweet child of God for the first time as your bosom swells with love and tears fill your eyes;
That is what it feels like to be a grandma.

To float on cloud nine the week of their birth;
That is what it feels like to be a grandma.

To face disappointment and sadness when you have to go back home;
That is what it feels like to be a grandma.

To mourn the fact that distance will separate the two of you;
That is what it feels like to be a grandma.

To think of them every day and wish you could be with them more;
That is what it feels like to be a grandma.

To see them in pictures, videos, and FaceTime—making your day;
That is what it feels like to be a grandma.

To realize that absence makes the heart grow fonder, especially with a grandchild;
That is what it feels like to be a grandma.

Having gratitude each and every day because you are lucky enough to have a precious grandchild;
That is what it feels like to be a grandma.
